MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- The 35th Force Support Squadron community commons team hosted the Winter Trade Market at Misawa Air Base, Japan, Jan. 26.

35th FSS leaders and Miyuki Taneichi, the 35th FSS community commons program specialist, created the market to give Team Misawa an opportunity to either find, sell, or trade-in their own winter equipment without spending a lot of money.

“We are providing Airmen the ability to enjoy the great outdoors,” said Taneichi. “With the amount of snow here, we wanted to offer the equipment needed to learn a winter activity such as snowboarding or skiing.”

During Saturday’s event, Team Misawa members bargained with vendors to get the best price possible for the winter sports equipment.

“Winter in Misawa can be amazing, and it is a prime location for some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world,” stated Matthew Busby, the 35th FSS commercial sponsorship and advertising coordinator. “This region always receives a tremendous amount of snow, and individuals can enjoy it by having the proper equipment.”

Busby explained winter sports can be expensive due to the equipment required. However, he mentioned the Winter Trade Market is an opportunity for Team Misawa members to invest in the equipment at a low cost.

“We purposely geared our prices below retail cost for those interested in any kind of winter sport, whether it be skiing or snowboarding,” said Busby. “Any time we can get people from the base together to talk about similar interests is a win.”
