Misawa Exchange helps airmen maintain BE FIT lifestyle during pandemic with Better-for-You meal, snack options
MISAWA AB – The Army & Air Force Exchange Service is helping the Misawa community start the year off right with a wide selection of better-for-you meals and snacks—all while keeping the safety and well-being of the community top priorities.
“With more better-for-you meal and snack options than ever, the Exchange makes it easy to maintain a BE FIT lifestyle,” said Misawa Exchange general Manager Kristine Cowley. “Whether dining out or on the go, Airmen can count on the Exchange to help them meet their nutritional goals while maintaining a safe, sanitized and secure environment.”
All of the Misawa Exchange’s restaurants offer better-for-you options that support readiness and resiliency:
- Burger King’s beef patties are made from 100% beef with no fillers or preservatives and chicken and beef patties are free of colors and flavors from artificial sources.
- Charley’s Philly Steaks offers items with 150 calories or fewer including grilled chicken, steak and garden salads, as well as a selection of Philly Cheesesteaks with less than 500 calories.
- Taco Bell diners can reduce calories and fat by up to 25% by ordering almost any menu item “Fresco style,” replacing ingredients with freshly prepared diced tomatoes.
- Taco Bell is an American Vegetarian Association-certified quick-serve restaurant, allowing diners to use any of Taco Bell’s 35 AVA-certified ingredients to make nearly 1 million unique vegetarian combinations. AVA-certified menu items with 450 calories or less include the bean burrito, cheese quesadilla and Cheesy Bean and Rice Burrito.
- Subway’s Fresh-Fit® menu includes six sandwiches with 350 calories or less including turkey breast, oven-roasted chicken, Veggie Delight and Black Forest ham.
Airmen and families can also find better-for-you meal and snack options on the go. At Misawa’s Express convenience store, shoppers can easily spot better-for-you meal and snack options thanks to Healthier Choices, Healthier Lifestyle shelf tags. BE FIT-approved items available at the Misawa Main Exchange and Express. .
The Misawa Exchange is committed to maintaining a safe, sanitized and secure environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Safety measures underway at Misawa Exchange restaurants include:
- Requiring food workers to wear gloves and masks
- Regularly sanitizing restaurant counters and food prep areas
Other preventative measures at Misawa Exchange facilities include minimizing the use of cash; requiring face masks; and regularly disinfecting PIN pads, countertops, door handles, shopping carts and baskets. Clear acrylic shields separate cashiers and customers, and strategically placed floor decals remind shoppers to maintain 6 feet of distance in checkout lines and other high-traffic areas.
