Marines from Camp Fuji experience a unique Japanese festival

Last week, some of our Marines went to the Awa Odori Festival in Susono-City.

The Awa Odori (Awa dance) is a traditional Japanese dance that is the result of a party in 1586 in the town of Tokushima. The local daimyo threw a party to celebrate the opening of Tokushima castle. He permitted dancing in the street for 3 days. The dance party then became an annual festival.

During this festival, Hundreds of performers danced on the main streets. The Marines enjoyed Japanese festival food and thoroughly enjoyed dancing with the locals. Our Marines then had the opportunity for a photo with Susono City Mayor Mr. Takamura.

It was a great night for the Marines to experience a unique Japanese festival and continue to prosper our alliance!
