AFN satellite change will impact Indian Ocean Region, Africa

The American Forces Network (AFN) will soon make a satellite change that will impact viewers in the Indian Ocean region, Africa, Central Australia and countries in Southeast Asia.

The change impacts viewers receiving AFN’s three-channel service: News, Sports and Entertainment.  The switch does not impact viewers in Central Europe, Japan, Korea or other countries who receive AFN’s Direct-to-Home service of eight television channels.

The current satellite is at the end of its life-cycle and will be taken out of service.  The actual transition period begins April 22nd and lasts until May 6th.  During the two-week period, both satellites will be carrying the AFN service, allowing time for users to transition from one satellite to the other.  The transition includes re-aiming satellite dishes and changing settings in the decoders.

AFN advises that if  you live in the Indian Ocean region, Africa, Central Australia and countries such as Thailand and Laos, that you should go to Myafn.net and click on “Satellite Change” to check to see if you are affected.

AFN is preparing the necessary guides for customers making the transition. These guides will be posted to www.myafn.net as the date draws nearer.
