MISAWA, Japan (Dec. 11, 2016) Petty Officer 1st Class Thomas Thornton, attached to Public Works Department Misawa, receives a certificate of appreciation from Angela Ortiz, founder of Ortiz Global Academy For Aid, for his role in facilitating Sailors from Misawa to assist in the Minami-Sanrikou Survivor and Community Building Benefit. Minami-Sanrikou was severely affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan.
