Spotlight: Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Cory Adams
AVAL AIR FACILITY, Japan – Sailor of the Week is a title granted to a different Sailor on board Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi once a week who has shown exemplary skill and work ethic within their work center.
This week’s Sailor of the Week is Logistics Specialist 2nd Class Cory Adams, a native of Mcclenny, Florida and 2006 graduate of Baker County High School.
“[I joined the Navy] because I was bored with what I was doing before the Navy and I wanted to try something different,” said Adams. “I was working at Blue Cross Blue Shield. Just working at a computer. Paperwork everyday.”
With five years under his belt and five more committed to the Navy, Adams is currently stationed on NAF Atsugi with the Naval Supply Postal Office and holds the title of “Custodian of Postal Effects” (COPE). As such, his responsibilities include ordering and maintaining supply levels and equipment.
“Adams’ performance has been nothing less than outstanding,” said Logistics Specialist Chief Ivy Cristobal, Adams’ division officer. “As the new COPE, he performs his duties above expectations.”
Prior to serving at NAF Atsugi, Adams was stationed with Electronic Attack Squadron 133 (VAQ-133) at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.
Between being stationed with VAQ-133 and NAF Atsugi, Adams was given the chance to see other locations around the world.
“My most memorable moment was the first time pulling into Malaysia on the other side of the world,” said Adams. “Because before that I’d been to Afghanistan and Iraq. That’s really nothing special. Malaysia was pretty clean. Everything is different so everything is cool to you.”
Since joining the Navy, Adams has received a Navy Achievement Medal and a Good Conduct medal.
Adams claims to be a simple guy in his spare time. His interests involve hanging out with friends, going to the movies and watching sports.
“In addition to his demanding duties as the COPE, he’s also actively engaged with community relations and completing his associates degree,” said Cristobal. “He mentors 3 junior Sailors in the Post Office, making sure they are well trained of their duties as postal clerks. A top-notch Sailor for everyone to emulate.”
Adams is honored as Sailor of the Week by being the guest host of the base’s weekly Captain’s Call show with the NAF Atsugi’s Commanding Officer Capt. Steven Wieman and Command Master Chief Carlton Duncan.
