Airlifter of the Week: Staff Sgt. Justin McDaniel
Congratulations to Staff Sgt. Justin McDaniel, 709th Technical Maintenance Squadron Detachment 402 senior field maintenance technician, on being the Airlifter of the Week!
McDaniel trains and directs 24 joint mission partners supporting strategic national policy makers. He also leads 6 technician teams configuring, operating, and performing full-scope maintenance for 19 nuclear monitoring locations.
He was selected and trained as an aircraft radiological recovery officer. This relatively new program was developed to safely return aircraft to operation after a radiological event like the Fukushima Reactor disaster. Detachment 402 has made SSgt McDaniel available to 374th Airlift Wing should they ever need his expertise to return their air assets to operations. In addition to his own maintenance duties, SSgt McDaniel excels at deconflicting tasks across the area of responsibility and prioritizing his technician’s attention. Due to SSgt McDaniel’s efforts, the Detachment’s maintenance effectiveness has risen 3% and the number of unscheduled maintenance actions has dropped over 15%. He was recently selected to lead a team that will overhaul a mission facility to support the largest capability expansion the Detachment has seen in 30 years.
