Scrumptious Japanese cuisine near Yokota
Pardon me for writing this while I’m hungry, but I couldn’t resist. I would like to officially announce my favorite family-style restaurant in Japan: The winner is … Tonden!
Affordable tasty morsels await you at this chain family restaurant located in Hamura City down from Fussa Station, outside Yokota Air Base. That is if you are willing to adventure off base and order from an all-Japanese menu. The challenge doesn’t stop there, though.
Depending on the time of day, the selection can be a bit overwhelming with multiple menus heaped upon you. Deciding which dishes to order will keep you pointing at the menus and coming back, as there is always something you haven’t tried yet.
The menu is loaded with dishes from beef to sushi, and of course, there’re plenty of vegetables. Those with a sweet tooth, save room for the desserts. My winter time favorite is “nabe,” those on-the-table boiling pots of veggies and meats that will satisfy your hunger.
Simple directions are to head out the Yokota Fussa gate and go down to the Fussa station stoplight and turn right on the street Seiyu Department store is on. Go down about 1.5 kilometers it’s on your right side. Here’s a link to help you find it; it’s definitely worth the trip: goo.gl/maps/ZvHRo.
