Tokyo's pet-friendly cafes and restaurants

Navigate down a small walkway into a whole new world. An elegant location in between Daikanyama and Ebisu, this beautifully decorated restaurant with a flower-filled terrace caters to a variety of special dining requirements (as long as prior notice is given). French fare is the name of the game, and the place topped the list of Tabelog’s “Best Lunch Place of 2013” (taken from 450,000 reviews). Dogs are welcome to join their owners at the table (just like in France!), but please notify the establishment in advance if your pooch is larger than a medium-sized dog.

Nestled in the quiet streets of Shitamaruko, dogs will delight in Asian. D’s selection of chow and chews, from steaks to muffins, as well as an array of very impressive birthday cakes for your pup’s big day.

This doggy-friendly diner has been in business for just over 11 years and is a popular hangout on hot days. With its distinct Mexican-style exterior it’s easy to spot, and it has enough space for bigger canines. It’s close to Fuchu no Mori Park, so it’s a great place to relax after a run around there. Menu items include wanko (doggy) bread and ramen. They can even organize a birthday party (including cake) for your pup’s special day.

A dog café with a fancy lunch set in both small, medium and large sizes to suit your pet’s appetite. Choose between girls’ (chicken), boys (beef) or “balanced” (pork). They cater to dogs with allergies and use pasta especially made to be dog-friendly.

For dog owners with a penchant for spicy food, this Thai place may be your best bet. The downstairs terrace area is set aside as a dog café, while those with allergies or who aren’t keen on your furry friend can eat in peace on the second floor.

A popular lunch place, Petit Leon’s menu boasts reasonably priced meals and snacks for dogs, ranging from chicken jerky to banana cakes.

For the brand loyal, this is the place to be. Not only is there a café, but also a grooming salon, pet hotel and accessory shop by the same group in the area (Poket BarBar and Poket Up, respectively). Dog menu items include doughnuts, risotto or chicken with sweet potato among other things.
