TELL Anti-Bullying Charity Walk & Run at new venue on May 24
TOKYO, April 23rd, 2015- A rite of spring for charity-minded runners and walkers, the 16th edition of the TELL Charity Walk & Run will take place at the Tama River (Tamagawa) running course on Sunday, May 24th. All proceeds from the event will support TELL, an accredited not-for-profit organization (NPO) with a 40+ year history in Japan, in its efforts to provide confidential mental health support and counseling to the international and Japanese community.
“This year we’ve added a theme to the TELL Charity Walk and Run,” said Vickie Skorji, TELL Lifeline Director. “We’ve added the slogan ‘Stand Up! Don’t Stand By” to raise further awareness to this important issue and help prevent bullying in our society through education and awareness. Children who are persistently subjected to emotional, verbal, and physical abuse are at risk of developing stress-related illnesses and long-term emotional and behavioral problems including depression, anxiety and low self-esteem, and the impact of bullying reaches far beyond bullies and victims; in a significant majority of cases, bystanders abet the bullying, either by teasing the target, actively encouraging the bully, or suffering silently with guilt for not standing up to the bullying behavior.”
The TELL Charity Walk & Run comprises a 10-kilometer run, 5-kilometer run, 5-kilometer walk, and 5-kilometer run for children, with prizes awarded to the fastest runners in the 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer runs. In addition, the first 600 participants to check in on race morning will receive a TELL “Stand Up! Don’t Stand by” Charity Walk & Run t-shirt, provided by Gildan. Additional prizes awarded to the top three girls and boys, plus entertainment and stamp rally.
Participants can register at www.telljp.com or on-site from 8:30 am for ¥3,500 (adult), ¥2,500 (6-12 yrs old). Registration will take place at the Furuichiba Track and Field Stadium, accessible via Kashimada Station (Nambu line); Shin-Kawasaki Station (Yokosuka line); Yaguchinowatashi Station (Tokyu Tamagawa line). The event finishes at midday, and proceeds rain or shine.
