Okinawa has its own indigenous dog

There is a dog indigenous to Okinawa. “Ryukyu Ken” is a type of dog which Okinawans used to have as hound dogs while hunting boar and birds. Commonly called “To Rah (Tiger)” because of the pattern of its fur, “Ryukyu Ken” is thought to have existed since the time of Jomon Era, which is about 15,000 to 2,300 years ago.
