Unlike Kanto area base events Misawa AB puts a new twist on its community events.  Rather than opening the gates for visitors to enter the base, Misawa AB actually does the opposite and brings a Taste of America, both food and culture to the local community.

With the RockFest stage set in the parking lot of Sky Plaza Misawa just outside the main gate of the base, the sneak preview Saturday night included an amazing concert with music legends from Journey, Chicago, and Togo.  They all jammed together with a backup band and a great time was had by all in attendance..

Sunday was the main day and it all started with a parade of Harley Davidson motor cycles followed by American Air Force and Navy commands and the Japan Self Defense Force Misawa based marching band as well.    There were many food stalls set up including base organizations serving American food, with Japanese  Indian and Thai food offerings as well.

In the Misawa City Civic Center performers included children dancing hula and American kids singing tunes ranging from rap to gospel.  There was even a foreigner duo performing on the local favorite instrument, the Tsugaru shamisen.

Should your travels bring you to Misawa this time of year, be sure to check out Misawa America Day.  A great time is guaranteed!!!!!
