Members of the Japan Coast Guard were invited to a bilateral event with the United States Coast Guard (USCG) personnel assigned to Activities Far East and U.S. Forces Japan held on 25 July at Yokota Air Base.

This event included a guided tour of the USCG C-130 aircraft normally based out of Air Station Kodiak, Alaska, and forward deployed to Yokota AB.  The USCG is a unique armed force of the United States with both a national defense and civil maritime mission focus.

The purpose for the C-130 flying out of Yokota AB is to provide maritime domain awareness of activity on the high seas in partnership with Japan as well as other North Pacific nations, in accordance with multilateral international agreements.  Bilateral events such as this aircraft tour improve awareness of how the US and Japan work together to preserve high seas fisheries for all North Pacific nations.
