USO Special Delivery
The USO and What to Expect began their partnership in 2013 hosting their very first baby shower for expectant military moms in Colorado at Fort Carson.
These baby showers have been hosted all over the United States and overseas in Okinawa, Germany and the Pacific.
On June 6th, “Special Delivery” made its first appearance at the New Sanno in Tokyo accommodating 100 expectant military moms from Yokota Air Base, Camp Zama, NAF Atsugi and Yokosuka Naval Base.
The event provided the opportunity for military moms-to-be to bond with other moms in their community who are going through similar experiences, like being away from their family and coping with their husband missing the birth of their son or daughter.
Mother’s feasted on a plated lunch of grilled rosemary chicken, Duchess mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli. Dessert was a decadent slice of strawberry shortcake to satisfy their sweet tooth.
Attendees enjoyed traditional baby shower games, raffle giveaways of baby supplies provided by our sponsors Johnson & Johnson and Toys R Us Japan, and an intimate Q&A session with “What to Expect” author Heidi Murkoff.
The USO and What to Expect Foundation are committed to continuing its support of military families as 98% of participants surveyed following Special Delivery events, last year, reported that the showers made them feel supported.
USO Japan is committed to lifting the spirit of our troops and their families during the challenges they face while serving overseas, and hope that the mother’s recognized the promise to stand by their side every step of the way through programs such as this one.
