Tree-lighting ceremonies are scheduled to be held Dec. 3 and 4
Tree-lighting ceremonies are scheduled to be held Dec. 3 at Camp Zama and Dec. 4 at Sagamihara Family Housing Area. As is tradition, the lights will be turned on by the U.S. Army Garrison Japan commander.
But this year, the commander is looking for children from the community to help flip the switch for each tree – a "Cindy (or Charlie) Lou Who" to kick off the holiday season on "Zama-ville" and "SFHA-ville," just like the young character from Dr. Seuss' beloved Grinch book!
Parents can nominate their children by submitting a short essay explaining why they think their son or daughter would make a great "Cindy" or "Charlie Lou Who." Two winners will be chosen to help the Garrison commander light the tree – one at Camp Zama, one at SFHA.
Submissions (no more than 200 words) can be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Nov. 25. The eligible age for children being nominated is between 5 and 12 years old. Include whether you live on Camp Zama or SFHA, and your email and phone number so you can be contacted if your child is the winner.
Those who are selected as winners are reminded to ensure they and their child will be available to be at the site of either the Camp Zama or SFHA tree prior to 6 p.m. (the ceremony time) on either Dec. 3 or 4.
