Misawa A.B. Rang in summer last Saturday with its annual Summer Splash Beach Bash Grand Opening. The all-afternoon event included events ranging from a beach volleyball game to age specific Limbo contests and a great day was had by all. Vendors served dishes including the American classic hot dog to teriyaki chicken on a stick, Asian noodles and more. There were free jet-skis, canoes and pedal boats available for people to get out on the water and enjoy. The event was complete with a petting zoo with a python and lama amongst the animals ready to receive a pat on the head. There was also a birds of prey exhibit and free pony rides for the kids.

FSS offered free shuttle bus service from four locations around the base. For those of you unfamiliar with Misawa, the base has it's own private sandy beach complete with playground facilities, water-sport amenities and cabins for rent for only $30 per day with beds for six. Located on the shores of Lake Ogawara, it is a great get-away located right on base. Though accessible only from the on-base road it's entrance has a public Japanese road running just over head, quite a sight to behold.

Here's wishing the most snowy American Air Force base in the world a very well deserved happy summer season!!!!!
