MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan -- Approximately 400 Airmen and several F-16 Fighting Falcons from the 35th Fighter Wing departed Misawa Air Base, Japan, to participate in COPE NORTH 2015, a multilateral operational training exercise in Andersen AFB, Guam, Feb. 2, 2015.

This exercise allows the U.S. Air Force and Navy, Japan Air Self Defense Force, Royal Australian Air Force and Royal New Zealand Air Force to conduct a variety of training to include humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, as well as air combat tactics and air-to-ground strike missions in the Pacific theater of operations.

The bilateral exercise is designed to enhance joint operational capability alongside military aircraft from the U.S. Air Force  and JASDF.

The exercise provides a quality venue to develop multilateral interoperability and coalition procedures in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and air power missions, to include air superiority, close air support, interdiction, electronic warfare, tactical airlift, aerial refueling and airborne command and control.
