Several of Camp Zama’s community members participated July 1 in the Star Festival hosted by the Japan Ground Self- Defense Force held at the entrance to the Camp Zama Community Club. Community members wrote their wishes on a piece of paper and tied them on bamboo, in hopes for their wishes to come true.

The Star Festival is one of the Japanese traditional annual events, which derives from a legend that Altair and Vega, which usually stay in the both banks of the Milky Way, meet once a year on July 7th. Here in Japan, people set up bamboos in their yards and decorate them with colorful strips of paper, which are filled out with their own wishes, in hopes that the wishes will come true.
