IKEA comes to Tachikawa
IKEA Tachikawa had its grand opening in April.
A branch of the world’s largest furniture store, IKEA International Group, the Swedish conglomerate provides Western style furniture – to fit Western sizes.
The new huge store in Tachikawa, Tokyo – just east of Yokota Air Base – features modern furniture, a large section of kitchenware and an array of oyther household accessories.
In IKEA, most of signs are in English so that you will feel more comfortable during shopping. There is a play area for small children for family as well as cafeteria style restaurant and food section.
It can be a fun place to spend a day of shopping and take in the Western atmosphere in, especially for locals.
Public transportation is highly recommended on weekends, not only because of large crowds snarled traffic, but because this IKEA reportedly charges 1,000 yen for parking!
It is best to drive there on weekdays, when in it can take 30 minutes by car from Yokota in very light traffic.
IKEA stores are in more than 25 different countries and IKEA Tachikawa is its eith store in Japan.

By train, IKEA is about a 10-minute walk JR Tachikawa Station.
