Four JGSDF awarded U.S. Army decorations

CAMP ZAMA, Japan – An honors ceremony was held here Sept. 26 to recognize four Japan Ground Self-Defense Force members along with nine U.S. Soldiers and nine U.S. civilian employees. Colonel Takeshi Ishimaru and Col. Toshihiri Takeda were each presented the U.S. Meritorious Service Medal. Lieutenant Col. Atsushi Miyake and Warrant Officer Tatsuya Furuta each were awarded the U.S. Army Commendation Medal. All four JGSDF members were recognized for their selfless bilateral efforts in strengthening the Japan & U.S. alliance as part of the ceremony. Presenting the decorations was Col. Enrique Camacho, deputy chief of staff for intelligence, U.S. Army Japan and I Corps (Forward). Assisting him was Master Sgt. John W. Gaines Jr, from the staff judge advocate office.
