Twenty talented women are preparing for the Mrs. Sakura 2013 Scholarship Pageant on Saturday, May 11.  They gathered recently at the Airman & Family Readiness Center for a workshop and heard many helpful tips regarding pageant preparation.  But these ladies are already poised, intelligent, and well spoken.  They have already proven their value as community contributors through amazing volunteer work.  They already stay in shape physically, mentally, and emotionally through various activities.  Some are mothers, some are career women, some are students, but they all bring something special to the Mrs. Sakura Pageant.

“The Roaring 20s” themed pageant will start at 6 p.m. at the Taiyo Community Center.  Thirteen  spouses will vie for Mrs. Sakura 2013, and seven high school students will compete for the first Miss Teen Sakura 2013.  Winners will receive scholarships and other prizes.  They will compete in interview, fitness, evening gown, and on-stage question.  The Yokota Dance Troupe will perform during the evening, as well.

Earlier in the day, the Mrs. Sakura Organization hosts the Cherry Blossom (ages 10-14) and Cherry Bud (ages 5-9) categories of competition.  Join these little ladies, also at the Taiyo, at noon on the 11th.  The older girls will compete for the Cherry Blossom crown while the younger ones will gain valuable experience introducing themselves on stage in front of a crowd.

At only $2 (adults) and $1 (kids, 12 and under) for admission, this is one of the most affordable and entertaining base events provided this spring.  But get there early to get a seat because family and friends of the competitors will likely fill up the audience.  The Mrs. Sakura Organization, host of the pageant, will be offering drinks and snacks as well as pageant memorabilia for purchase at the event.

Sponsors for the Mrs. Sakura Pageant include the Japan Welfare Association, Exchange Car Sales, Temomin Massage, Samurai T-Shirts, Petals & Blooms, The University of Phoenix, and The New Sanno Hotel.
