The Mayor of Iwakuni City, the Honorable Yoshihiko Fukuda, Col. Robert V. Boucher, commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, and other station and Japanese government officials participated in the 5th Joint Leadership Walk, Jan. 30, 2015.

The walk symbolizes the unique and enduring bond between Iwakuni City and the air station. Boucher said as American ambassadors to Japan, it is our strong desire to both conduct ourselves accordingly and contribute to the betterment of the community in every possible way.

Various Japanese media outlets covered the event allowing Japanese residents to observe their elected leaders', as well as the air station's senior leadership's, commitment to the safety and security for all residents and the effective preservation of the U.S.-Japan alliance.

The JLW began in 2009 and was designed to be held biannually but did not continue after the summer of 2011 following the change to the United States Forces Japan/III Marine Expeditionary Force liberty policy. With the return of the walk, Boucher said he fully supports any plans the mayor may have to conduct JLWs in the future.
