The 40th Annual Yokosuka Mikoshi Parade Oct. 16
Many traditional Mikoshi (sacred palanquins or portable shrines) and Dashi (floats) will gather from throughout Yokosuka city and will parade from Blue Street to Yokosuka Naval Base. U.S. Navy volunteers will carry their own Mikoshi as part of the traditional Japanese festival! This is a great festival that both American and local Japanese people can enjoy together!
Date: Sunday, Oct. 16
Time: 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (last entry: 2:30 p.m.)
Parade starts at Yokosuka Chuo Station at 10:30 a.m. and will travel through “Blue Street,” Womble Gate and end at the parking lot of in front of Main St. U.S.A. (food court).
- Seventh Fleet Band performance (45 min) at Benny Decker Theater at noon and 1:15 p.m. Air toys, face paint, and food booth and more at the parking lot.
- After the parade, a Japanese ladder stunt show will be held on base.
* For entry, visitors are randomly asked to present IDs. For non-Japanese nationals, passport or resident card is valid.
* The event will be cancelled in foul weather, but will be conducted in light rain.
